The Technology

Incoming email is redirected to a fully redundant network and filtration application, which processes messages via both traditional spam filtering combined with proprietary message analysis technology..

Message Analysis:

This cutting edge technology for detecting junk email & virus's is the result of many thousands of hours of development and Katharion’s experience in processing billions of messages. The Think Anti-Spam service utilizes numerous traditional techniques for spam detection in combination with a variety of next-generation methodology for message analysis.

Due to the wide range of tests, generally no individual element will in itself flag a message as spam. This is done to avoid the false positives normally associated with simpler methodologies & services currently available. The broad scope of the analysis results in an industry-leading, cutting edge detection rate for junk email.

Message Analysis include elements such as:

Authenticity Checks including detailed header analysis, SMTP conversation details, message encoding and formatting, and other characteristics.
Fingerprinting to compare email signatures to frequently-updated public and internal databases of known spam messages.
Heuristic Rule Sets, that encompasses message headers, body text, and other characteristics of both English-language and non-English messages.
Public and Private Blacklists of mail servers, open relays or networks known to be used by spammers.
Extensive Databases of elements such as URLs, phone numbers, and physical addresses known to be used by spammers.
Domain History and Reputation to increase the accuracy of blacklists and URI databases.
A self-learning Bayesian Engine that analyzes patterns of phrases in messages, and assigns mathematical probabilities for the presence of those phrases in junk mail vs. legitimate mail,
Real-Time Message Analysis to assess whether an increased volume of mail flow is a legitimate high-volume mailing, or the result of a spammer hijacking or the use of a ‘zombie’ network,
Dynamic Feedback-Based Rules Optimization to leverage feedback from thousands of users as well as from many monitored legitimate and ‘spam trap’ email addresses,
Customizable whitelists & blacklists can be applied on an account-wide, organization-wide, domain-wide, or user-specific basis.
Working together, these elements accurately detect a very high percentage of spam, phishing emails, and other unwanted messages – while minimizing the chances of legitimate messages being detected as spam.

Message Handling:

It is our goal to minimize the amount of time an administrator or email user needs to spend managing their junk email, offer several options for handling of detected junk mail.

Options can be established globally across one or more domains, or by groups of users, or by the end user & are changeable at any time.

Customers may choose to:

Drop detected spam – an aggressive approach that reduces a customer’s overall bandwidth requirements and mail server load. Due to the extremely low percentage of "false positives" it is very rare that a legitimate email message will be dropped.
Tag and forward detected spam – with a modified subject line, incoming email can be automatically directed to a specific folder in each user’s email program for periodic review and/or deletion.
Redirect detected spam -- junk mail can be directed to an alternative address, e.g., spam@example.com.
Quarantine - junk messages are redirected to individual web-mail quarantine accounts that can be reviewed at any time by the end users. This is the most common choice of larger businesses and ISPs, this approach reduces bandwidth requirements and mail server load for the end user yet ensuring that no legitimate message's will ever be lost.
In addition to the basic choices which be configured by person, by group, by domain, or by company, users may optionally receive periodic message digests, providing each user a list of the junk email received for them
The Digest provides to option to release each message from the quarantine in case it is or may be legitimate, and provides reassurance that no legitimate mail is being detected as spam.
A combination of flexible spam handling, message digests, one-click whitelisting, well-designed management interface, and high accuracy allows both administrators and end users to spend less time dealing with the frustrations of junk mail.

Total Integration:

As a managed service which is deployed at the gateway to your network it is compatible with any email infrastructure. Whether, you have a  multi-server environment, or a single in-house mail server at a given organization.

With a few simple DNS changes, your email is automatically protected, with no hardware, software, or configuration changes at the customer level.

Total Compatibility:

Think Anti-Spam is compatible with any existing email system & is designed to integrate seamlessly with your organization’s email infrastructure. This means that customers do not have to worry about managing email users in multiple places.
Whether running Exchange, Groupwise, Sendmail, Gmail, or some other mail server, it means a quick & simple integration with most system's via LDAP/LDAPS or other protocols. Email addresses may be synchronized automatically, along with authentication information as desired. In this manner you can easily defend organizations against Directory Harvest Attacks, as well as spam runs and Denial of Service attacks.

Total Continuity:

As a critical business tool the inability to access your email even for a short time can result in a great loss of productivity & revenue. Think Anti-Spam provides your organization with peace of mind in knowing that you have one of the most effective anti-spam solutions available today at any cost!
First, If your mail server is temporarily down or inaccessible for any reason, no messages are lost and the people who sent the email will never receive error messages. These messages are stored for you and then delivered once the mail server is back online. A timing algorithm is used to deliver the messages so that your mail server is not overwhelmed with the sudden influx of messages.
The Think Anti-Spam service in partnership with Katharion is absolutely the best way to provide your company with proven true e-mail continuity, under circumstances ranging from a short, planned mail server upgrade, to that of a catastrophic network outage.
